Monday - Crazy in love and Samantha.
Today the aim was to practise Crazy in love and Samantha two songs the band picked during the weekend and this is how the processes of practicing these songs.
Crazy in love.
I spent the weekend listening to the original version of crazy in love all weekend and it turns out I was listening to the wrong version thanks to my lack of attention in the group chat since I was talking my coursework while the songs were being selected so though I knew what song we were doing I didn't know we were playing a different versions of these songs.
The version of the song we were rehearsing was the fifty shades version of the song a quieter more relaxed take on the original since I hadn't learned this take on the song today I had to improvise my role which turns out to not be necessarily a bad thing since we are actually allowed more creative freedom with this FMP so if the band prefer my Improvised attempt at the song maybe this will be a way of the band making our own version of crazy in love.
Samantha.
Luckily I was listening to the right song or version of this song this time and though I studied it the main song consists of a lot of programmed drums mainly involving the hi hat so keeping up with the use of hi hats in the original song will be difficult to perform onstage at this time so though I'll try my hardest to represent the original as best as possible but in the rehearsal today I didn't have the time to one hundred percent it.
Crown.
We didn't manage to gather video footage of the other songs though thankfully Nick came in with his trusty camera and got some footage of our performance.
This rehearsal wasn't personally best since I completely forgot to come in on time but to be fair that won't happen onstage cause I can't zone out onstage unless I'm mesmerised by the how well I'll be playing the songs on the FMP performance day.
Tuesday- continuing to learn crown and peaches.
Peaches.
I've managed to fully learn the parts for Peaches and the songs general vibe this song is a slow, melodic, technical song which requires a bit of concentration towards co-operating with the band mainly the piano and tough this task isn't hard it seems like I'm providing a extra step towards the song that don't need to necessarily be there.
Crown
It's starting to seem like these two songs are becoming our go to songs crown and peaches are personal favourites of mine becoming the songs I listen to more in my spare time without intent of listening to the songs as a chore for the band and mainly I listen to them as more of a leisure with other songs I tend to listen to though crown is coming along nicely since the song is soo lade back like many others we have picked.
Wednesday - Progressing with Crown, Samantha.
What happened today?
After yesterdays rehearsal on crown I've come to learn that I could fit in more of a calm approach to the songs simply put I was trying to hard to play the songs how they were written, played and produced until thinking of listening to a live lounge version of crown and Samantha so today I listened to the live lounge version of the song and tried to replicate it this came in useful for helping me play Samantha to a satisfactory level, other than this we had rehearsed the other songs
Crown
I approached the rehearsals to this song with more of a free, Improvised approach while also keeping In mind the key elements that make up the song, no complexed drum rolls and a simple hi-hat, snare and bass 4/4 playstyle.
This is the Live lounge version of the song I took inspiration from I utilised the use of the Crash cymbals to transition into each chorus while also taking out some drums in parts of Toby's rap to drag more attention to his vocals and what he is saying.
Samantha
This live lounge version of Samantha is more grandiose and is a cool version of this song to play the drummer provides some cool drum rolls to take inspiration from so working with a similar playstyle could be interesting to attempt again in the pod rehearsals though I still need to get the double hi-hats down before attempting to play this song again in this playstyle though I have got down how I will approach learning this song.
