How have you improved through your own personal practice so far? So far I've only had a little time of recent of personal practice though I have been spending that sime improving on my snare drags on any surface though I would say I've used this drumming technique to the point I'm probably the guru of it, it's a cool sort of pass time that doesn't require my drum kit at all.
To be completely honest tapping away on any old wooden surface works when It comes to improving drumming skills though it won't kill you to use a practice pad since what i've come to learn is that hitting stuff that isn't a drum kit will produce a horrible sound that tends to give headaches.
What have been your strengths throughout the course so far?
Mainly learning genres that I wouldn't have learned without being tasked with particular songs has definitely helped me wrap my head around more complexed music when originally I'd avoid trying complicated or more advanced music so I'd list my ability to learn genre specific playstyles as one of my defining strengths that have shined on the course.
Another strength I've developed during the course is my ability of organise my time and plan rehearsal sessions so before a rehearsal session I'd talk with the band about the setlist and how we'd utilise our time in the pods and I proud of my ability to organise my time to get the best out rehearsals and this shows in performances.
How are these strengths going to be beneficial throughout the rest of the course?
With my ability to learn fast and organise my time it will definitely benefit me and my future bands especially since it seems we will have very little and if not any time in person with my bands this year we'll obviously need as much organised time and will have to be quick to learn our parts.
What have been your weaknesses throughout the course so far?
Getting coursework done online is hard to get done on the particular deadlines like this blog work now I don't need to have this work done by 5pm but I set that time limit for myself so I don't have to do it in my own time so I try to make the best work in the time I have to make it.
How have these weaknesses hindered your performances?
When spending most of my time doing coursework it can come back to bite me since i'm not getting as coursework done it'll cut into my personal rehearsal time and therefore I'll be less prepared for the performances because I wouldn't have rehearsed or learned my parts making it cut into my learning time.
What would you like to develop throughout this term?
Getting more familiar with Logic, Learn at least one new genre and find a new instrument to pick up though this will be difficult since in lockdown I won't be able to access a new instrument or even my own instrument until we are relieved of these restrictions so I predict that two of these three goals are guaranteed to be accomplished this term.
Why will this be beneficial for your personal development?
Since we may be doing a lot of our work online this year I think spending most of my time trying to learn Logic will help if lockdown last to the point we can't do a performance in person logic will definitely be a tool we'll need to use when making the virtual performance that we'll definitely have to do if lockdown stretches, so me learning and improving on my logic knowledge will encourage me to get out and record takes on my drum kit to help produce the best songs for the bands performance.
